This past summer we had our first opportunity to visit Crested Butte during wildflower season and it was seriously stunning. We found a few beautiful trails in the mountains to explore and celebrate with Katie and Austin for their adventure elopement in Colorado. They drove all the way out here from the east coast with their adorable little hedgehog named Prickly Pear, and the views were well worth the trip for all of us.
How They Met
“We met at our firehouse in Hyattsville, Maryland. We started as friends, talking about everything from firefighting and patient care to dating struggles and life goals. We each had work schedules that made socializing difficult, but we found out that we had mutual days off, so we would grab lunch or see a movie and just hang out on those days. It sounds so simple, but working as EMTs for private ambulance companies made work-life balance almost impossible. Having a reliable friend to relax with on days off was crucial. Our relationship grew from there.”
Their Favorite Qualities About Each Other
Austin: “Katie is extremely smart, motivated, and very independent. Her love for helping others is inspiring, especially in the public safety world. She allows me to be myself, and while she might not always agree with me, she respects my views and morals. Katie loves the outdoors and adventuring as much as I do and doesn’t mind getting dirty and working hard. She always makes me happy, and being around her is so relaxing, especially after a long day at work.”
Katie: “Austin has an ability to make me smile that is unrivaled by anyone I’ve ever met. People who know me from work might not even realize that I can relax and have fun, but Austin’s great at tearing down the walls I build during the workday and letting me be myself.”
