This summer we hiked nearly two miles (in the dark!) with Brittany and Ryan for an epic sunrise elopement at Lake Isabelle. “Breathtaking” is an understatement. They brought two of their closest friends with them, and we started trekking out at 4 am from the parking lot at Brainard Lake Recreation Area with headlamps and all their wedding attire in tow.

And yet, even with the early morning schedule and the cold temps up at over 10,000 feet, these two were excited to be celebrating their wedding day with one of the best adventures I know of.

They dressed separately in the dark, and had their intimate first look moment just as the first bit of sunrise alpenglow was turning the Indian Peaks a bright orange-pinkish color. Then they said their vows with their friend John officiating their ceremony right in front of Lake Isabelle. The entire morning felt absolutely genuine, meaningful, and peaceful. It was everything you could dream of for a hiking elopement in Colorado!

Afterwards, we spent the rest of the morning exploring the trails, fields, forests, wildflowers, waterfalls, and everything else this area has to offer. And since Ryan and Brittany met while dancing together at a bar (and spend lots of time doing country dancing or swing dancing since then), we even celebrated with their first few dances as a married couple! <3

Check out our favorites from their big day below! Thank you both for being so much fun to work with!

Your Photographer, Videographer + Collaborator

Hey there! I’m Kaitlyn, the lead photographer + videographer behind Skyewater Photo + Film, based in Seattle, WA.

An introvert at heart, I always value real connection, stories, and conversation over surface-level interaction any day of the week.

Having documented 200+ weddings and elopements on camera over the last decade, if there’s one thing I’ve realized it’s that I have a knack for being the calm, welcoming, and intuitive energy couples didn’t even realize they needed.

So, I invite you to think about what it would feel like to be fully present, unapologetically yourselves, and care-free on your wedding day instead of worrying about what everyone else wants. And take comfort in knowing you have my full support, every step of the way.
