One of the best compliments a photographer could hear is having those you already know (friends and family) ask you to be their wedding photographer — and not just because you’re family, but because they truly admire your work! And it’s exactly what happened with my cousin Paula and her now husband Scott, who had a beautiful wedding at Marina Del Rey at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills last month!
I don’t often go back to Florida, and haven’t been to the Orlando area in a while, but it was so worth it to not only be there for their wedding but also to capture it all, especially photos of my own family during the reception!
When I asked how Scott proposed, Paula wrote: “I had worked Thanksgiving at the hospital and it was a crazy day, one of the craziest days I’ve had at work to date. When I came home Scott heated up Thanksgiving dinner leftovers for me that he had brought home. After I ate we ultimately decided to go hang out with friends for a little bit before we called it a night. Scott said to me, “Before we go anywhere, why don’t you sit down on the couch for a minute?” I was afraid I would fall asleep but he seemed like he had something important to tell me so I sat down. He sat next to me and spoke from the heart about a conversation he had with his mom about how you should tell people how thankful you are for them every day rather than just on thanksgiving. I thought he was just being sweet and had no idea what was going on until he mentioned that he also spoke to my dad earlier that day. Naturally, I started to ugly cry and he got down on one knee and proposed! I gladly accepted and we face timed my parents to share the news and went over to his brother and sister-in-law’s house to tell them in person and have a celebratory drink! The proposal and ring were nothing like I had pictured but were absolutely perfect and I wouldn’t change a thing! It’s one of the many times Scott knew me better than I knew myself.”
Some of my favorite details on their wedding day was Paula’s unique lace dress, and the old-Florida vibe and color scheme with mint and shades of peach. And of course all the greenery surrounding us for their first look and couples portraits, as well as the waterfront at sunset! We even had the chance to take some photos in a 1967 Pontiac GTO, and I loved the results!
Thank you both for trusting in me for your big day! <3 Love you!
