Nothing quite says “love in Seattle” like a surprise rainy proposal by the water. When I first moved to Washington State a couple of years ago, a mutual friend of ours suggested I connect with Erin, another wedding photographer who moved here from Colorado. Although we never crossed paths when we lived in Denver around the same time, it felt so nice to meet such a welcoming and kind person so early on after relocating!

Over time, I not only got the chance to work with Erin on some wedding days and travel to a wedding conference in Las Vegas, but I also witnessed first-hand just how well Erin and her partner Ben fit together. So when he reached out with his plans to propose and wanted to document the moment on camera, I felt so honored to help freeze this memory in time for them!

Despite the rainy forecast, he envisioned taking her to “their” spot they’ve visited often over the last few years on the way to/from the SeaTac airport, a tiny little one-park bench along the waterfront. As the partner to a photographer, he knew to bring a clear umbrella (which is best to still show some light on their faces in the rain), and had such a cute plan for getting down on one knee. He walked the little shoreline looking for shells as they often do, and brought them back up to the bench for Erin to see. Except this time, among his collected items from the beach was her custom-made ring using gems from family heirlooms, because he knows how much Erin loves jewelry with a story.

We were all soaking wet by the end of the session, but she was so surprised and I love how the moody images totally fit the vibe of the day. One of my favorite proposals to-date!
