alabama elopement photographer

When I created Katogenic Photography nearly a decade ago, I had no idea what was in store for myself as a person, or for the business.

“Katogenic” was a word I came up with around 2011 to combine my name (Kaitlyn) with the word “photogenic.” Back then, the idea of the “ketogenic” diet existed, but was hardly as big of a trend as it is today. At the time, it didn’t really bother me, because creating a name for my photography company was not something I had stressed over too much: photography for me was more of a hobby than a profession or business.

Needless to say, a lot has changed since then.

  • By the end of 2020, our company will have photographed over 100 weddings and elopements for couples across multiple states.
  • In the last three years, we’ve expanded to include videography services and have added talented team members I’m proud to work alongside.
  • More and more, we have been capturing breathtaking, intimate moments in the great outdoors, where elements like mountains, lakes, beaches, sunlight and weather come together to make the experience more intimate, memorable and timeless.

There’s no way our company could have ever grown into what it is now without the support of all of the couples we’ve worked with, the vendors we’ve built relationships with, and the family and friends who continue to spread the word about us all the time. I truly thank each and every one of you!

And today, I’m beyond excited to announce that Katogenic Photo + Film is now Skyewater Photo + Film!

We are still the same talented team and the same dedicated wedding company as before, but with a more defined focus on adventure elopements and destination weddings — especially for couples who love water.

Why Skyewater?

We believe that love, like water, is necessary for life. It’s a strong and powerful force, but also a comforting and peaceful one. It heals and nourishes us. It can make us feel alive, yet calm, all at once. Water has the ability to move us, both physically and emotionally, in ways we may not be able to put into words . . . just as love does.

Water has also moved and shaped the landscape of our planet in a variety of ways. Bodies of water support the areas with the greatest biodiversity on our planet. Water is so powerful, even places that are now dry — like deserts, mountains, and canyons — still show impacts from water that used to be there millions of years ago (in the form of rain, snow, rivers, lakes, floods and glaciers).

Skye is a beautiful Scottish word that can simply mean cloud or sky, but often means adventurous or free-spirited. By combining these two words, our new photo and video brand evokes the unique and authentic experiences we offer to adventurous couples who want waterscapes and the natural world to play an important role in their wedding day.

Giving Back

With our new brand, we’re also launching a new Giving Back program. Each time a couple chooses to work with us, we donate a portion of every package we sell to four nonprofit organizations. These organizations support clean water programs (for people and the earth), outdoor education and experience, and research and conservation efforts.
